Choose a gentle, even grow light for orchids
Orchid genera have different light needs. Common Phalaenopsis generally need moderate, evenly distributed light rather than the intensity used for high-light crops.

Measure or estimate light at leaf height and at more than one point. A useful center intensity does not guarantee that plants at the edges receive enough light. Fixture shape, beam angle, mounting height, barriers, and the length of the daily schedule all affect the result.

Use the result as a starting point
A listed wattage is electricity use, not plant-level brightness. Reflectors, lenses, fixture dimensions, spectrum, barriers, and the illuminated area all affect the result. Manufacturer PPFD maps or a reading from a cosine-corrected quantum meter are stronger evidence than wattage alone.
